Veterinary Assistant

Where are you from and how long have you lived in Vancouver?
I am from Aldergrove, BC, and have lived in Vancouver for 5 years.

Why did you choose to become an RVT/VA/CSR?
I chose to become a VA/CSR because after working closely with animals for several years, I decided to enter the veterinary field where I feel I can offer the most help to animals in need.

What do you love most about being an RVT/VA/CSR?
The thing I love most about working in an emergency animal hospital is the variation between cases. No two days at the hospital are exactly the same!

What advice would you give someone entering emergency veterinary medicine as an RVT/VA/CSR? And what skills are most important?
My advice to anyone beginning work in this field is to not be afraid to ask questions. Emergency care is fast paced and learning from other’s experience is an excellent way to bolster your knowledge and provide informed care. Curiosity is important in medicine!

Tell us about a special animal memory.
My most special animal memories come from my time fostering and boarding dogs. I had the chance to foster a husky with pica for 8 months, which was quite a challenge! I was lucky enough to get to help him work through many of his behavioural issues, and was able to help him find a home where he could finally get the lasting love and care he deserved.
