Marla has been involved in the health and wellness profession for over 20 years, first with humans and now with animals. She obtained her degree from Simon Fraser University with a focus on Kinesiology and Human Geography and has numerous personal training certifications within Canada and the U.S. She also completed 2 years of the 3 year Animal Health Technology diploma program from Thompson Rivers University.
After co-owning and operating 2 health and wellness facilities in Vancouver, Marla moved on to her true love of animals and veterinary medicine. She worked at the Bowen Island veterinary clinic for 8 years before focusing her attention on the newly built Mountainside Animal Hospital where she plays several roles: Veterinary Assistant Manager, Marketing & Social Media, Community Outreach Coordinator, and District of North Vancouver liaison. She also acts as a liaison between the Bowen Island clinic and Mountainside.
Marla has been fortunate enough to travel throughout the world, spending time and volunteering in amazing places such as Africa, India, Nepal, Indonesia, Thailand, New Zealand, and Central America. She has also crossed Canada several times by bicycle, motorcycle, train, and truck!
When not working you can find her pursuing her love of adventure and the outdoors on the beaches and trails of Bowen Island, triathlon or marathon training, kayaking, hiking with her foster dog or riding her motorcycle.
