Veterinary Assistant

Where are you from and how long have you lived in Vancouver?
I was born in Hong Kong and immigrated/ studied in Toronto during high school and university. I moved back to Vancouver from Hong Kong in 2017.

Why did you choose to become an RVT/VA/CSR?
I choose to become a VA because I love different kinds of animals and want to explore this industry, so I joined and started my first job working in HKSPCA.

What do you love most about being an RVT/VA/CSR?
What I love the most about my job is I can work with different kinds of animals and people. I learned a lot of different skills and techniques being a VA.

What advice would you give someone entering emergency veterinary medicine as an RVT/VA/CSR? And what skills are most important?
I believe the most important skills for a good emergency veterinary medicine VA is quick and appropriate responses because we are dealing with each patient’s life and death in each minute.

Tell us about a special animal memory.
My very special memories about animals is the penguin parade I attended in Japan. More than 30 cute and adorable penguins were walking slowly together on the snow path. I really wished I could join in and walk side by side with them.
