Hypoglycemia in Dogs and Cats

Hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) is a relatively common condition in both dogs and cats and should be treated as a medical emergency.

It is a complicated and sometimes finicky condition but can be a managed and treated.

It can be diagnosed by doing some blood and urine testing and, depending on severity, may be treated with IV fluid support and hospitalization, diet changes, insulin and regular monitoring.

Wee Mia got her blood sugar checked and also received some TLC from our gentle giant, Steve.

Symptoms can range from subtle (lethargy, disorientation, lack of coordination, inappetence) to severe (seizures, coma, death) so seek veterinary advice asap.
