11 Jan Cat Attacked by 4 Raccoons! Emergency of the Week – Bittmow
Sweet Bittmow was brought to Mountainside after being attacked by four raccoons in his backyard. His owner was able to chase the raccoons away, but Bittmow was so scared he hid until morning. When he came home, his owner noticed multiple lacerations on his tail and took him to his regular vet, where he was then referred to us due to the extent of the damage.
Upon examination, it was determined that his numerous wounds required cleaning and suturing under sedation. Pre-surgical bloodwork was taken to make sure Bittmow had no significant health concerns before undergoing anesthesia. Bittmow was sedated, and his tail was prepped by scrubbing with an antiseptic and flushing the wounds with a sterile solution. The wounds were then sutured closed.
Bittmow recovered well from the sedation and was able to go home later that day. He went home with antibiotics to prevent any potential infections, as well as pain relief to aid his recovery. Bittmow’s sutures were removed 14 days later. He healed well without any complications, and his owner reports he is doing very well at home since his visit to us.
